Lets Get Active

We are trying to combat a sedentary lifestyle but often our plans remain purely theoretical. Here are some ways you can become more active.

A modern lifestyle that we have today comes with many hours spent on the desk chair in front of the monitor, and bulk often with another couple of hours relaxing on the couch comfortable home, with hand on remote or tablet, respectively.

In this picture, physical inactivity is installed quickly and becomes a routine that seems to no longer way out. How would you get out of this vicious cycle of inactivity?

Surely you ever thought you could go to the gym several times a week, but you thought it would be too much effort and time you decided to postpone for later.

But being active is not just to practice some kind of sport regularly, but is more than that.

Being active, as the term suggests, it involves getting involved in activities that you enjoy doing and do not necessarily involve a strenuous exercise. It is important to keep the dynamism and feel good doing.

The advantages of a more active life

You have surely heard how important it is for your health that you exercise regularly, but the benefits obtained are much more extensive.

People who are active are healthier not only physically, but also psychologically.

Studies by neuroscientist show that, while we move, our brains produce endorphins, those chemicals that soothes pain and that gives us a state of pleasure and euphoria.

So, movement and exercise will make you happy. Also, you will feel satisfaction at the completion of enjoyable activities have the effect of direct sense of efficacy, coupled with increasing self-esteem and confidence in their own strength.

As we become more active

Here are some suggestions for a more dynamic life, without making too much effort. Perhaps the ideas below will challenge your limits and will draw little comfort zone, but with a touch of motivation can be successfully implemented.

Forget the elevator was invented. Instead of taking the elevator each time, choose to climb up or down stairs that come your way, whether they are from the metro, from work or home. Even if you take a few minutes longer, the advantages are considerable.

The same thing you can do when talking on the phone. Instead of sitting or lying down in bed, walk around the room during a call.

Make stretching every day. Have you noticed how the animals spread their backbone morning when they wake up, but during the day, whenever you feel the need?

I invite you to follow their example and to start your day in the same way, paying attention to key muscle groups.

You will notice how your energy level will increase instantly, and your body will be deeply grateful to you.

Also, when you’re at work, do not forget to get up from the chair once every hour, straighten your spine and walk a little.

Ride a bike or rollerblading. You can opt for green alleys in the park, leisure time, or if you’re brave and distance suits you, you can travel the route from home to work on wheels.

Play. Next time you propose the children to play with them, no longer refuse, but accept the challenge. It will be quality time spent with them, but also an opportunity to move and activate your own inner child.

The same can be applied to your pet if you have one. Dog or cat is sure to be glad and give him attention as pull a hefty serving of play.

Make an evening with friends and go out to a place with good music, dance and enjoy each other.

Do a general cleaning because it’s a useful way to consume energy.

So, if spring comes, you may be thinking to make some changes. Rearranges your wardrobe, donate things you no longer necessary, rearrange the furniture in the house or change the color of the walls. Any change is welcome, while bringing a new spirit house and makes you feel invigorated.

Make volunteering. Find a good cause, to inspire you, and get involved in community life, becoming a volunteer in a mission that you propose.

It is one more way that you can be active and useful. You’ll feel proud of yourself and the results you’ll get, without being at all about material satisfaction.

Furthermore, you may find that setting new quality relationships with people who have the same values as you.

Follow your passions. Yes, it is about those things that you want to do them for a long time, but always find many excuses or feel it is too late for them.

Maybe it’s ballet lessons, acting classes or about to defeat your fear of water, learning to swim. Either way, I invite you to take initiative and follow your dreams because now is the ideal time!

These are just a few suggestions that you could become more active, considering the busy schedule and the abundance hours spent in the chair.

Be active for at least 2½ hours a week. Include activities that raise your breathing and heart rates and that strengthen your muscles.

  • Maintain weight
  • Reduce high blood pressure
  • Reduce risk for type 2 diabetes, heart attack, stroke and several forms of cancer
  • Reduce arthritis pain and associated disability
  • Reduce risk for osteoporosis and falls
  • Reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety
